Zambia country report

Before 2011 I wrote down in my diary that I wanted to attend WASLI and WFD. And thanks to the support I am now here.

We have a few trainers, mostly deaf, who were trained in the past by the Finnish Association of the Deaf. Our association has short courses for those who want to become an interpreter. We have only a few interpreters, and they are not specialised. The interpreters are mainly in the big cities and not in the rural area.

The educational system for deaf persons is deplorable, they are not educated on general matters, but also not on HIV/aids.Deaf persons have the highest enrollment rate in education, but also the highest dropout rate.

One of our achievements is that the tv will now offer sign language interpreting is provided on major tv events.
