South African country report

There are 600.000 Deaf people in South Africa. There are 105 sign language interpreters in South Africa, of which 54 are trained, 50 untrained and 4 accredited.

Sign language is unfortunately not recognised. The major challenge is setting up an interpreter association. We had an association a few years ago but this unfortunately folded.
