Costa Rica country report

The presenter is not a member of the Costa Rican interpreter association.

There are 16 certified interpreters, but approx. 10 - 12 work as interpreters. There are no Deaf interpreters certified. However, there are two Deaf people who has worked in the legal system. There are many Deaf people who may be interpreters, but they do not know they may become interpreters.

Deaf people request an interpreter, for example in the legal system. Costa Rica has a training at the university for about the last four years. The fourth group is just finishing that programme.

(note: an update was made of this report following the WASLI conference, upon the request of the presenter Christian Ramirez, from Costa Rica)
