Cameroon country report

Cameroon has about 20 million people, and 20000 deaf people. We have three sign languages: ASL, LSF, and Cameroon Sign Language.

Most interpreters in 2005 did not have a formal training, some had an on the job training. Today not much change has occurred. Most sign language interpreters go for other careers because the profession does not bring any pay. Some improvements have happened by the work of the deaf association and the parent organisation of the deaf and a third christian organisation.

Some tv programmes now have interpretation provided.

Currently we do not have an interpreter association but we are working towards that.
