Ethiopia country report

Since 1961 we have deaf education in Ethiopia. We currently have 10 schools for the deaf. My own estimation is that 85% of deaf people in Ethiopia are not getting education. Because of the lack of interpreters and the economic condition of Ethiopia.

The CODA's, just like other countries, are the first interpreters in Ethopia. ENASLI, the Ethopian Interpreter Association, is recognised by the ministry. At the university of Addis Ababa we have a first training on sign language and deaf culture.

ENASLI and ENAD (deaf association) are closely working together to improve the situation for deaf persons in Ethopia.
